Elopement at the great sand dunes national park and preserve | Colorado

Erin and I hadn’t seen each other since we were in kindergarten in Dayton, Ohio. She dmed me on Instagram and asked if I would be interested in being flown out to catch up, but also photograph her and her fiancé’s elopement. My reply: Say less.

Erin and Nathan escaped to Colorado to be in nature and take the slow life. Their house is a stunning Earthship Home. I had never even heard of one before, and it was the coolest place I’ve ever stayed. All you see are mountains, trees, and all the fauna hopping and galloping about. Early in the mornings, there would be small groups of deer just feet away from the windows.

You know me, a storyteller, so I wanted the gallery to have a certain flow, just like directing a movie. I started documenting at their house. They wrote their vows to each other and started prepping to leave for the dunes.

We then began our two-hour drive to The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. We didn't need to obtain a permit, as it was just the couple and me.

When we got there, we picked a spot, and Erin and Nathan split up so she could get ready, and Nathan wouldn’t see her right away.

After their first look, vows, and creating an anniversary basket, we started their couple’s photos…and that is when Nature decided to create some magic for us.
